4 or 5 Magicians was a four-piece indie rock band from Brighton based around singer-songwriter, Dan Ormsby. Formed in 2005, the band underwent numerous line-up changes throughout its five-year career. The final line-up included guitarists, Ormsby and Aslam Ghauri, bassist, Ben Gregory and drummer, James Thomas. The group’s lo-fi indie pop ethos was exemplified by the fact Ormsby recorded much of their only album, 2009’s ‘Empty, Derivative Pop Songs’, in a rented room on aging equipment for the ultra-competitive cost of just £100. The group called it a day in 2010 to allow Ormsby to focus on new projects.
